Narcolepsy is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder that can have deleterious effects on physical and mental health as well as on functioning and work productivity. In the AWAKEN survey, only 34% of physicians reported being " very " or " extremely " knowledgeable about the disorder. Sleep medicine is a largely neglected topic both in medical school and at the postgraduate level. To help address this professional practice gap and improve outcomes for patients with narcolepsy, quality improvement efforts need to provide education regarding the mechanism of action of medications used to treat narcolepsy. After completing this activity, participants should be better able to describe the mechanism of action of medications used to treat narcolepsy.
